Peter Barber
Founder & Director
Peter Barber worked with Richard Rogers and Will Alsop prior to establishing Peter Barber Architects in 1989. He is currently lecturer and reader in architecture at the University of Westminster. In 2021 he was elected to the Royal Academy. In 2022 he was awarded an OBE for services to architecture. He was awarded the Soane Medal in 2023. He has been described by the independent as one of the UK’s leading urbanists.
Phil Hamilton
director
Phil Hamilton joined Peter Barber Architects in 2002 having worked with Nigel Coates at Branson Coates Architecture. He became a Director in 2012. Phil has a wealth of planning and construction experience having led large multi discipline teams on multiple award-winning housing and mixed use projects. Phil has lectured across the world about PBA’s unique approach to housing, and has been a regular key note speaker at the GLA ‘s UDL seminar programme attended by planners, councillors and policy writers. He is a member of the LB Hackney and LB Wandsworth Design Review Panels, and is a member of the RIBA National Awards Panel.
Alice Brownfield
director
Alice Brownfield has worked for Peter Barber Architects for 11 years having previously worked for Niall Mclaughlin on a range of award winning housing projects. Alice became an Associate Director in 2017, and a Director in early 2022. She has led large teams on multiple award winning housing projects across London. Alice has given numerous talks on PBA’s approach to public housing and community engagement. She is a visiting critic at a number of UK Schools of Architecture and sits on the London Borough of Havering Design Quality Review Panel. In 2021 Alice was awarded the MJ Long Prize for Excellence in Practice.
Emma Kitley
associate director
Emma Kitley has worked for Peter Barber Architects for 10 years, becoming an Associate Director in 2021. She has great experience of collating, leading and coordinating large multi discipline consultant teams on exemplar housing and mixed use projects. In 2018, Emma led the curation of a 4 month long Retrospective Exhibition of Peter Barber Architects work at the Design Museum; and in 2023, led the curation of the Royal Academy Of Arts Summer Exhibition Architecture Room alongside Peter – both exhibitions were received to critical acclaim. Emma has taught at the Bartlett School of Architecture Summer School, UCL.
